Be "GREEN" This Holiday Season

GIFT GIVING: Give an experience rather than stuff. A gift certificate for a massage, facial, restaurant, or theater. Donate to a charity in the person's name. Spend quality time with that person. The memory lasts longer than any "thing."

REGIFT. Make a gift area for things that you receive and don't like but know they will be appreciated and loved by someone else.

DO A "WRAP FREE" GIFT. Use all that newspaper you have in a bin ready to be recycled. Over 38,000 miles of ribbon alone is thrown away during the holiday season. Don't contribute to the waste.

Buy handmade: Mass production are a major cause of global warming and the
poisoning of our air, water and soil. Every item you make or
purchase from a small-scale independent artist or crafter strikes
a small blow to the forces of mass production.

BUY Online: Avoid the parking lots and long lines of the big chain stores in
favor of something more meaningful.

Shop local helps the economy and the community. Buying locally will save fuel and keep money in your community and your country.

Choose products that come with little packaging. You will also
cut down on waste production and energy use!

Go green!

1. DO A "WRAP FREE" GIFT. Use all that newspaper you have in a bin ready to be recycled. Over 38,000 miles of ribbon alone is thrown away during the holiday season. Don't contribute to the waste.

2. BE FULLY LOADED. Do full loads of laundry, not just a bunch of little ones. You save energy (yours and fuel) and time.

3. GET VIRTUAL, MAN. Put bank accounts and statements on line. Get rid of that monthly paper clog.

Change the light bulb

1. Have a pad and attached pen on the refrigerator to note when something is done or running low and take the pad to the supermarket. This cuts down on food and time waste!

2. CHANGE LIGHT BULBS to low energy ones. It saves you time and money. (They last longer and don't burn out as quickly).

How to choose bracelets

  • When purchasing bracelets, you'll need to decide where you're going to wear them, and how noticeable you want them to be. The availability of size and shape is endless - you can go from large bangle bracelets to dainty gem bracelets. If it is a slip-on bracelet, be sure that it will fit over your hand. Make certain to measure your wrist as the fit of a bracelet is very important. Too large and it will look sloppy and may even slide off. Too small and it can constrict your wrist movement.
  • Your hands are your expressive area and many of us "talk with our hands." (they are also the smallest part of our body!) Try wearing three bracelets on one wrist - its a sign of power. They don't have to match either so step out and do something different. Don't forget to wear a dainty bracelet with your watch.

Cleaning stone beads

  • Immerse stones beads in warm, soapy water and scrub them gently with a soap brush. Then rinse the beads and place them on a soft towel to dry.
  • Most stone beads can be ultrasonic cleaned as well. Please note: beads that are dyed or organic (amber, bone, coral, ivory, opal pearls or turquoise, for example) can be damaged if cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner. Also, dyed stones should not be steam-cleaned.

Small spaces mistakes...

"Cramming the space with too much stuff. A large piece of furniture can actually make the space feel larger, as long as it's selected carefully. For instance, if you have the benefit of high ceilings, a tall cabinet appropriately placed has the effect of drawing one's eye upward and away from the small footprint of the room. Just make sure every piece counts and holds its place and lets your eye rest." —LAURA KIRAR

"Not strategizing. Decide everything that needs to happen in a room, and then work that legerdemain, baby. Divide a room geometrically into task-oriented zones — working, sleeping, relaxing, dining. Think in halves, quarters, or even on the diagonal and assign a function to each section." —ELAINE GRIFFIN

"Not paying enough attention to the color of flooring and walls. Lighter walls and lighter floors do automatically give the illusion of more space." —MARY MCGEE

Bululu Studio's Favorite Sellers

I stumbled upon freezedriedevil today on Etsy. From the her profile: "I taste like bile, blood, and adrenaline. I smell like fire and honey. I laugh like the wind. I move like smoke. I love sushi, poop like no one's listening, touch the oil paintings in museums, laugh at inappropriate moments, crochet improvisationally, photograph haphazardly, only make things that make me happy, prefer noise to music, and would fly into a flame trying to save a moth."

freezedriedevil offers crocheted item is one-of-a-kind and made without a pattern. Aside from not being able to read patterns, She finds that figuring out her own ways to solve problems is much more rewarding, and the organic method of creating something on the spot allows her to make it the best that she can every time without having to adjust a pattern because of yarn type, item size, etc. It also guarantees that no two items will ever be exactly the same and that your unique item had her full attention throughout the creative process.

I especially love the Angry Ladybug Hat, of which she has one for sale (shown above).

She also offers a nice variety of handcrafted of crocheted keychain in lots of styles and colors.

Please stop by freezedriedevil and check out her selection of goods, especially the really awesome crocheted goods she has for sale.

Also, check out her web site, which is very cool.

Junk mail issues?

Try opening the stack each day, next to a trash can. In other words, attack the mail immediately, throwing out the obvious junk mail and keeping only the truly important stuff. Throw out the envelopes, they take space in your mail organizer.

Be honest with yourself if you decide to keep something--an ad for an on-sale item, a coupon, etc.) Don't keep it unless you are truly going to cash in on it and use it.
